Hair Dye Or Bleach: Is One Worse Than The Other?
This is a question out of curiosity. I’m not just talking about bad for your hair, but also based on the chemicals & their effects, etc.
So, is either of them safer than the other? And if yes, would hair dye depend on the colour? (I know it depends on the type).

Here’s the chemistry behind your question…
If using “dye” or color instead of bleach & the goal is two to three shades lighter that what you already have then dye is no safer than bleach & makes them about equal.
What happens is the developer in the product has to be powerful enough to LIFT out the present color before it deposits the desired color.
Some bleaches are safer than others…like cream bleaches. They have a sort of conditioning agent as it recloses the cuticle on the hair shaft at the end of the process. (most often the store brand isn’t used properly & the cuticle on the hair shaft hasn’t had time to close, causing all kinds of damage & splitting)
The safest is temperary color where there is just depositing of color & no “lifting” involved in the process. Hope this answers more than just your question.

To answer your question in the most simplest form..When you apply hair color you are applying it to the hair which initially conditions it, when you put bleach on your hair it is basically stripping your color which can damage it eventually.
By the way highlights are lifting color HELLO
Lighting color / lifting color
