You’ll need to bleach the ends first otherwise the colour won’t take. If you are only doing the ends & it turns into a disaster just cut them off! It will soon grow back

Hi there. I’m a hairstylist in training, nearly done with school… So of course I -had- to answer this question!
There are a lot of factors you should look into before lightening your hair like this. First, is your hair virgin? In other words, is it in a completely natural state with no prior chemical treatments? Secondly, how thick is your hair? Is it a very coarse texture? Medium? Very fine? Coarse hair (which is usually very curly & resistant to color treatments) can be very curly, or can simply feel rough to the touch.
Anyways, in order to get this color you want, involves the usage of bleach, which will always damage the hair, but on a lesser degree if you take your time & have several applications to the area over a certain amount of visits to a salon. Ah, & there’s another bit of advice: If you want to do this, I recommend going to a salon to get it done. That way, your stylist will be able to tell you exactly what your hair type is, & how light they can make it in one sitting. In my experience with my guests, however, something like this can be accomplished in a single visit.
On a more aesthetic note: How long is your hair to begin with? If it’s very short, this sort of bleach application is called anything from “dusting” to “Shoe-shining” & is very common. If you have longer hair, such an application could look very good if done correctly, or it could simply make it appear that you’ve got bad regrowth. In this case, just be sure that the bleach is applied in such a way that it blends with the natural color of your hair. I would also recommend getting several different shades of brown weaved in to give your new color more dimension & more purpose.
A color like this could be very flattering & stylish, but as I said earlier, I recommend you go to a salon (or even a good hair school) to get it done.
