I totally agree with you. We should enjoy the colour of our skin & not change it-why..? I think they are not confident & do not accept their natural colour.

    Queenie says:

I think people like being tan for two reasons:
#1–They think they look thinner (more model like).
#2–They feel that colors/clothing looks better on tanned skin.
It is odd because back in the old days people wanted to be pale as possible to show they didn’t have to work outside, etc.

for some strange reason people think a tan makes them look thinner, youinger & more beautiful-NOW. What they don’t take into consideration how ridiculous they look because it is very un-natural-and how they are gonna look later in life when their skin looks like wrinkled leather or when they get skin cancer

if you look at a white person naked the white color all over does not look apealing.. but people that have a little tan or yellow skin like the chinese & japanise & mixblood americans.. look good with their clothes off.. that is the reason ok gilermo.

maybe because it seems america seems obsessed with having the dark Beyonce look. compared to 100 years ago where pale look was coveted because the commoners would be dark after working in the fields
i was watching Kate Winslet [English] on an American show a little while ago & she looked like a blonde Snow White around all the leathery fake tanned other women

I know what you mean…there is a differance between tan & freakish…I tan because I am grossly pale..I mean you can see through my skin (at least on my legs) I am not that pale anymore because I tan….I continue to tan to keep a healthy glow…I am not nearly as dark as most people are & I still get made fun of for being pale but I am darker than I used to be & I look a little healthier.

Girls that get fake tans & bleach their hair so their hair is lighter than their skin are gross.
It’s not attractive in the least, & I don’t get what the hell they think they’re doing. Even when the tan is natural & the hair is lighter, it still looks retarded, & unnatural.
    I agree.

    Shuggoth says:

I don’t tan, like Alice Cooper I cherish my moontan. All those
people tanning who don’t have naturally beautiful dark skin
will destroy the collagen that holds their skin in place, by
the time they’re in their forties their skin texture wil be similar
to an old rotted stump. I lived in Arizona for ten years, I
witnessed again & again that of which I speak.

Yes, girls think that guys think that tan is hot, so they keep tanning to look hotter.
it changes to an TANorexia (and yes its a real sickness). They think all the time they are white but are tanned so they keep tanning & dont realise they look like a carrot.
I personally dont think it is beautiful & belive me boys dont think it is beautiful either.
    hope i helped :D

    QUEEN VANETTE says:

We live in a fascist state controlled by corporations. The corporations sell us on a standard of beauty so that we’ll dump our money on tanning supplies. Then they turn around & scare us about our health by selling us on the claim that too much sun exposure causes cancer. The point is to drain us of every dime that they possibly can.
On the other hand, tanning does have it’s benefits. One reason why people tan is because it’s addictive. It’s sort of like exercise in that our bodies produce endorphins when we do either of the two (tan or exercise). Endorphins are chemically related to the drug morphine, so they make people feel grrrrrrreat. They block pain, decrease appetite, & decrease anxiety. Endorphins induce feelings of euphoria, feelings that people want to continue to experience. This results in more & more tanning & more & more exercise. However, tanning & exercise also increase due to people becoming more receptive to the endorphins that their bodies produce…. People continue to increase the duration of tanning & exercise as they become more addicted. One might think this to be a bad thing, but it isn’t necessarily. Higher pain tolerance & the increased energy granted by the endorphins allows for more intense & frequent work-outs. And I don’t think I need to explain the benefits of exercise. I’ll explain the benefits of tanning after I add the following:
Another reason why people tan is to mask blemishes (such as stretch marks, scars, etc…), uneven pigmentation, veins, & so on. But, then again, some people just want to be darker. Reasons for wanting to be darker vary…. There are folks who simply feel more attractive with darker skin. While a lot of people are influenced by the clever marketing of the corporations [which tell us that a sun-kissed body is a sexy body], this isn’t always the case.
Tanning can be extremely beneficial in other ways: Melanin provides natural protection against the harmful effects of the sun’s ultraviolet rays, & we get more of both when we tan. Tanning is caused by the production of melanin & pigments enlarging in response to the ultraviolet radiation. (UVB rays stimulate melanin production in the body, & UVA rays oxidize that melanin.) More melanin equals more protection (helping to prevent sunburn damage among other things). And more protection equals the ability to spend more time in the sun & reap the following benefits:
—The production of more of those endorphins that I spoke of above & all of the accompanying physical & mental benefits (And they are MANY.),
—The production of vitamin D, which promotes the absorption of calcium into each cell of the body (Studies show that both may play a role in the prevention of cancer & disease. And surely I don’t have to explain the benefits of calcium absorption?),
—Due to the production of vitamin D, there is a decreased chance of having a vitamin D deficiency (which is very common in northern European countries where there is far less exposure to the sun),
—Kills many pathogens inside the body, lowers cholesterol, & lowers blood pressure,
—Results in a better quality of sleep & daytime alertness. (Increased sunlight exposure equals circadian rhythms being more in-sync with the environment.),
—Alleviates the appearance & discomfort of psoriasis,
—New evidence suggests that it may combat fungal infections.
I could continue, but I’ll conclude by saying that I wish people would stop discouraging others from exposing themselves to sunlight. While it’s true that people evolved according to their environments (among other things), it’s my opinion that those of us who are much less pigmented would have evolved into nocturnal beings if sun exposure wasn’t in the cards for us. We shouldn’t be encouraging people to refrain from something that we NEED (something that nature obviously intended).
